Basmati identity, regulatory type and commercial grade answer different questions. This guide keeps them separate so a buyer can compare accurately and request evidence that belongs to the selected lot.
Evidence boundary
Values below are regulatory reference thresholds, not a Harobal batch COA. Final origin, grade, limits and tests are confirmed during RFQ.
Variety comparison
Registered Basmati rice variety; APEDA reports it among the principal varieties cultivated in Haryana.
Notified/recognized Basmati variety; APEDA reports it among the principal varieties cultivated in Haryana.
‘Steam’ is retained as a buyer-facing trade term. The final specification must state whether the supplied rice is milled, brown, parboiled brown, or milled parboiled under the applicable FSSAI type.
FSSAI describes parboiled Basmati as rice subjected to soaking and heat treatment so starch is gelatinized, followed by drying; the exact brown or milled type must be declared.
FSSAI reference baseline
| Parameter | Milled | Milled parboiled |
|---|---|---|
| Average kernel length | ≥ 6.61 mm | ≥ 6.61 mm |
| Length-to-breadth ratio | ≥ 3.5 | ≥ 3.5 |
| Average cooked length | ≥ 12 mm | ≥ 12 mm |
| Volume expansion ratio | > 3.5 | > 3.5 |
| Pre-cooked breadth | ≤ 2.0 mm | ≤ 2.0 mm |
| Elongation after cooking | ≥ 1.7 | ≥ 1.5 |
| Moisture | ≤ 14% | ≤ 14% |
| Organic extraneous matter | ≤ 1.0% | ≤ 1.0% |

This adds the exact variety and processing program to the RFQ. Moisture, broken percentage, packing, destination limits and batch testing remain explicit quotation fields.
Declare variety, regulatory type, moisture, broken grains, extraneous matter, packing and quantity.
Request the relevant physical, residue, contaminant and authenticity tests for the destination.
Basmati origin must align with the protected GI geography; exact mill and crop origin are confirmed per program.
